This privacy policy applies to the GroqBoard app (hereby referred to as "Application") for Android mobile devices and Wear OS, created by Alex Goldberg (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a Commercial service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".
Information Collection and Use
The Application collects information when you download and use it. This information may include:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address)
- The pages of the Application that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages
- The time spent on the Application
- The operating system you use on your mobile device
Microphone Permission
The Application requires access to your device's microphone to provide its core functionality as a voice-powered keyboard. Here's how we use this permission:
- Voice Recording: When you tap the microphone button on the keyboard or the floating bubble, the Application temporarily records your voice to convert speech to text.
- Processing: Audio recordings are immediately sent to the Groq API service for transcription using the Whisper model. The audio is processed in real-time and converted to text.
- No Storage: The Application does NOT store any audio recordings on your device beyond the temporary file needed for processing. Once transcription is complete, the temporary audio file is deleted.
- No Collection: We do NOT collect, save, or transmit your audio recordings to any servers owned by the Service Provider. All processing is done through the Groq API using your personal API key.
- User Control: Microphone access only occurs when you actively tap the microphone button or the floating bubble. The Application never records audio in the background or without your explicit action.
Overlay Permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW)
The Application uses the overlay permission to display a floating voice dictation bubble over other apps. This allows you to dictate text in any app without switching keyboards.
- Purpose: The floating bubble provides quick access to voice dictation from any screen.
- No Data Collection: The overlay only displays the microphone bubble. It does not capture, read, or transmit any content from other apps.
- User Control: The floating bubble is optional and can be enabled or disabled in the Application settings at any time.
Accessibility Service
The Application offers an optional Accessibility Service to enhance the floating bubble functionality. This permission is NOT required for the core keyboard to work. Here's how it is used:
- Smart Bubble: Detects when a text input field is focused so the floating bubble can automatically appear and hide, reducing visual clutter.
- Direct Text Insertion: Inserts transcribed text directly into the focused text field without using the clipboard, providing a seamless dictation experience.
- Voice Editing: Reads the current text in a focused field so the AI can apply voice-commanded edits (e.g., "fix the grammar", "translate to Spanish").
- No Screen Reading: The Accessibility Service does NOT read, capture, or transmit the contents of your screen, notifications, or any app other than the currently focused text field.
- No Data Collection: No information obtained through the Accessibility Service is collected, stored, or transmitted to the Service Provider's servers.
- User Control: The Accessibility Service is entirely optional. You can enable or disable it at any time in your device's Accessibility settings.
AI Text Editing (LLM)
The Application offers an optional AI text editing feature (voice editing via the "wand" button or bubble long-press). When used:
- Processing: The current text in your focused field and your voice instruction are sent to the Groq API for processing using a large language model (LLM).
- No Storage: Neither the text nor the instruction are stored by the Application or the Service Provider. Processing is done in real-time through the Groq API using your personal API key.
- User Control: AI editing only activates when you explicitly long-press the wand button or bubble. It never runs automatically.
Predictions and Local Data
The Application includes a word prediction engine that learns from your typing patterns:
- Local Storage Only: All prediction data (learned words, phrases, and text patterns) is stored exclusively on your device in a local database.
- Text Import: You may optionally import text files (such as WhatsApp chat exports) to train the prediction engine. Imported text is processed and stored locally on your device only.
- No Transmission: Prediction data is never transmitted to the Service Provider or any third party.
- User Control: You can clear all prediction data by clearing the Application's data or uninstalling the app.
Wear OS Companion
The Application includes an optional Wear OS companion for smartwatches:
- Data Sync: Your Groq API key and language preferences are synced from your phone to your watch via the Android Wearable Data Layer (a direct, encrypted connection between your paired devices).
- No Cloud Transmission: Settings are synced directly between your paired devices. They are never routed through the Service Provider's servers or any cloud service.
Third Party Access
The Application uses the Groq API service for speech transcription and AI text editing. When you use these features:
- Your audio recording or text is sent directly to Groq's servers using your personal API key
- Groq processes the data according to their own privacy policy and terms of service
- The Service Provider does not have access to your audio data, text, or transcriptions
- You should review Groq's privacy policy at console.groq.com for information about how they handle data
The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.
The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:
- As required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
- When they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;

You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. You can also revoke individual permissions (microphone, overlay, accessibility) at any time through your device's settings.
